How Diverse is your Art History Curriculum?

During this month and next month, we will celebrate the important contributions of African-Americans and women. It's a great time to consider the question: how diverse is your art history curriculum? One of the most exciting aspects of teaching visual arts is the opportunity to introduce students to unique individuals from a variety of backgrounds who express themselves through creativity.  It is very easy to fall into the routine of only teaching about "the masters" from a classical viewpoint. The average student will most likely be exposed to the art of Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Picasso and Warhol at some point during their lifetime. But will they ever learn about the art of Charles White, Meta Vaux Warrick Fuller or Robert S. Duncanson?

The beautiful art of the talented landscape artist Robert S. Duncanson, is the focus of one of our newest art resources. Our Seasonal Poster Set & Art Activity displays give students an opportunity to create 4 different landscape drawings after learning about this great African-American artist and his depictions of the four seasons.
